Association Background
American Bar Association - Section of Intellectual Property Since 1894, it has contributed significantly to the development of our system for the protection of intellectual property rights. With 20,035 total members as of 8/31/00 (17,295 Lawyer members, 753 Associate members, 1,987 Law student members), the Section is the largest intellectual property organization in the world.
   
American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) is a 13,000 member, national bar association constituted primarily of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community. The AIPLA represents a wide and diverse spectrum of individuals, companies and institutions involved directly or indirectly in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition law, as well as other fields of law affecting intellectual property. Our members represent both owners and users of intellectual property
   
American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation The AIPLEF is a collaboration of the following Bar Associations that was started in January of 2001 to provide Scholarships, Summer Internships and Mentors for Minority law students pursuing careers in Intellectual Property Law.
   
Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) The Association of Legal Administrators' mission is to improve the quality of management in legal services organizations; promote and enhance the competence and professionalism of legal administrators and all members of the management team; and represent professional legal management and managers to the legal community and to the community at large.
   
Council of Insurance Agents + Brokers (CIAB) The premier association for commercial insurance and employee benefits intermediaries in the United States and abroad. From its headquarters in Washington, D.C. - with programs conducted throughout the nation and world - The Council represents the largest, most productive, and most profitable of all commercial insurance agencies and brokerage firms. Only the top one percent of all agents and brokers qualify. The Council's members place 80 percent of all U.S. insurance products and services protecting business, industry, government, and the public at-large, and they administer billions of dollars in employee benefits.

Intellectual Property Owners Association

IPO is the only association that represents the interests of all owners of intellectual property. IPO differs from bar associations by focusing exclusively on protecting rights of ownership of property. Although it has attorney members, IPO does not deal with issues relating to private practice of law. IPO represents the broadest possible range of interests in ownership:

  1. Organizations and individuals,
  2. Manufacturers and parties to licenses and assignments,
  3. People interested in patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets,
  4. People in the United States and worldwide in all industries
   
International Brokers' Association (IBA) The International Insurance Brokers Association (IBA) is an independent network aimed at providing businesses and organizations with outstanding risk management and insurance brokerage services, both domestically and world-wide.Their carefully selected members form a highly responsive team with one single focus: to provide outstanding professional, personalized insurance related services to each individual client. Although partner companies may vary in size, they never vary in their commitment to quality and client service.
   
Medical Society of New Jersey (NJMS) MSNJ's mission is to promote the betterment of the public health and science and the art of medicine, to enlighten public opinion in regard to the problems of medicine and to safeguard the rights of the practitioners of medicine.
   
Minority Corporate Counsel Association The Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) was founded in 1997 to advocate for the expanded hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys in corporate law departments and the law firms that serve them. MCCA accomplishes its mission through the collection and dissemination of information about diversity in the legal profession.
   
National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) The largest women's professional association and the largest women business owners' organization in the country, provides resources and services - through education, networking, and public advocacy - to empower its members to achieve career success and financial security.
   
National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA)

Founded in 1993 the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA) is a 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to serving law firms engaged in the business of retail debt collection. To serve the members, the long term objective is to continue to elevate the practice of retail collection law. NARCA's goals, in priority order, include:

  1. Networking,
  2. Legislative,
  3. Education.NARCA currently serves 600 law firms engaged in the business of retail debt collection.
   
National Insurance Industry Association The National Insurance Industry Association is a Not-For-Profit association formed in 1973 to address the need to exchange ideas and experiences of minority professionals working in the insurance industry. The objectives of N.I.I.A. are : to serve as an information resource , to provide self development forums, to encourage continuing education, and to extend professional support and encouragement so that N.I.I.A. Members & Friends might enhance their knowledge and skills and thereby their opportunities. In an effort to attract dedicated and motivated candidates to the Insurance Industry ,over the years N.I.I.A. has provided scholarship funds to minority students enrolled at the College of Insurance. The proceeds from the Annual Awards Luncheon are the primary source of funding for Scholarships and the chapters operating expenses.
   
New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA) A non-profit, professional business organization representing Certified Public Accountants. With 14,000 members throughout the state, the NJSCPA is one of the largest and oldest state CPA societies. Since its founding in 1898, the mission has been to serve the needs of its members, the business community and the public.
 
   
New Jersey State Bar Association (NJ Bar)

Mission statement, to:

  1. Serve, protect, foster and promote the personal and professional interests of its members.
  2. Serve as the voice of New Jersey attorneys to other organizations, governmental entities and the public with regard to the law, legal profession and legal system.
  3. Promote access to the justice system and fairness in its administration.
  4. Foster professionalism and pride in the profession and the NJSBA.
  5. Provide educational opportunities to New Jersey attorneys to enhance the quality of legal services and the practice of law.
  6. Provide education to the New Jersey public to enhance awareness of the legal profession and legal system.
   
New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA)

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) is the largest state accounting organization in the nation and currently has 30,000 members. It was incorporated in 1897 for the following purposes, to:

  1. Cultivate, promote, and disseminate knowledge and information concerning certified public accountants.
  2. Establish and maintain high standards of integrity, honor, and character among certified public accountants.
  3. Furnish information regarding accountancy and the practice and methods thereof to its members and the general public.
  4. Protect the interests of its members and the general public with respect to the practice of accountancy.
   
Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) The Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) are voluntary, membership based, trade associations representing professional, independent property/casualty insurance agents.
   
Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) PLUS was formed on the premises that professional liability is an insurable risk; the parameters of exposure are sufficiently defined to enable underwriters to anticipate future trends in severity and frequency of claims; the unique characteristics of professional liability exposure-pricing, claims examining, and marketing require its recognition as a distinct class of insurance; and the interdependence of insurers, producers, legal professionals, and consumers requires a mutual understanding of the fundamentals of professional liability insurance.
   
RiskProNet International (RiskProNet)

Incorporated in 1997, is a network of 29 insurance brokers throughout the United States and Canada. Each member firm is an equal owner. Members are selected based on rigorous criteria designed to create a consortium of the most progressive and viable firms in the industry. RiskProNet International has combined its membership into a seamless provider of risk management services and shared knowledge. These capabilities benefit clients who have national, international or highly specialized insurance and exposure to risk. What differentiates this organization from the "mega-brokers" is the shared commitment of members to give top priority to any inquiry or service request from other members.
